Book Review: Song Of The Mango And Other New Myths by Vida Cruz-Borja

If you have been here for a while, then you must know about my love for fairy tales, folklore and fantasy. When I picked up Song of the Mango And Other New Myths, I was expecting a collection of fantastical, whimsical stories rooted in Filipino folklore and mythology, that would sweep me off my feet and take me to places that could only exist in my imagination.

The First 5 Books I Reviewed

Lately, I have been re-reading the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi from the beginning again, and each time I finished a book from the series, I went to Goodreads and re-read my original reviews waaaayyyyy back from almost five or six years ago…and oh my god friends, it was pure joy!

I’ll be the first to admit that my reviewing style was super immature back then, but was it entertaining?

ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY YES!

In fact, I had so much fun re-reading the thoughts of younger little me, that I decided to write a post on the first 5 books I have ever reviewed. That’s right friends, today, we are gonna take a trip down memory lane where I’ll be re-reading the first 5 books I reviewed on this blog and sharing my thoughts about each of them. Let’s get to it!

Return From Hiatus + Updates And Confessions

After months of disappearing, I am back (again) and super excited to start sharing posts in this tiny little corner of the internet that I own. The past four months have been pretty crazy–2023 started off on a bad note for me, what with my father having a stroke on the very first day of the year.

Dramatic Bookworm Problems

Let me be the first to say that bookworms have to be the easiest to please species on planet Earth. All we want is an infinite amount of time to read books, an infinite amount of money to buy books, and infinite bookshelves for growing our collection.

Book Review: The Gilded Wolves By Roshani Chokshi

This might be my first book review of The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi, but it is the second time I am reading the story. And once again, I find myself absolutely in love with the glamorous, dangerous world that Roshani Chokshi has created.

Set in the 1890’s, during France’s Beautiful Era, The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi is a thrilling, fantasy heist story that deeply explores the gruesome exploitation of Western colonization and systematic racism.

5 Best Book To Film Adaptations

There are very few things in this world that terrifies a bookworm as much as book to film adaptations do. No, we are not being nitpicky–it is actually rare for us to come across a book to film adaptation that is neither a complete mess nor goes off track from the source material.

BUT, thankfully, there are still quite a few gems that have been made based on equally beautifully written books. Here are my list of the best book to film adaptations that I have seen till date.

Having read Rin Chupeco’s The Bone Witch trilogy, I knew I was in for a treat. Let it be known that my expectations for this book were VERY high, and Rin Chupeco surpassed them all!

Book Review: The Sacrifice By Rin Chupeco

Spine-tingling, creepy, and ominous, The Sacrifice by Rin Chupeco is a terrifying horror story about a mysterious boy trying to guide a team from Hollywood as they try to film real footage of a cursed island in the Philippines, one where they say a powerful god sleeps, awaiting eight sacrifices that would wake him so he can remake the world.
