Top 10 Tuesday: 2016 Debut Novels I Am Looking Forward To

 

Hello everyone! I have finally returned from an unannounced hiatus and what better way is there to start anew than with a ridiculously fun meme? I am super excited for my first Top Ten Tuesday post, a weekly meme originally created by The Broke And The Bookish. This week’s topic is about 2016 Debut Releases that I cannot wait to get my hands on and let me tell you something: there are many great books that are going to be released in the coming year.

Since I usually organize my TBR list by genre (yes I organize my TBR list…it’s ever-growing and organizing helps me keep track and make sure that I am reading a wide variety of books. It’s perfectly normal, I swear), today I will pick two books from 5 of my most favorite genres. Here they are:

Young Adult Thriller/ Mystery

The first time I was born, I was Emma.

Let’s see: Beautiful cover? Check.

A promise of thriller and suspense and mystery? Check

Yep. This is definitely my kinda book.

The principal of Opportunity, Alabama’s high school finishes her speech, welcoming the entire student body to a new semester and encouraging them to excel and achieve.

The students get up to leave the auditorium for their next class.

Told over the span of 54 harrowing minutes from four different perspectives, terror reigns as one student’s calculated revenge turns into the ultimate game of survival.

I am honestly super excited for this book. I have never read a book about high school shootings–something that is a real and unfortunately frequent problem in the USA—and I am very interested to see where the writer goes with this story.

Young Adult Fantasy:

As much as I love stories about time travelling, the real reason why I want to read this book is because it’s about making dangerous sacrifices and breaking the rules of Mother Nature…and we all things don’t end well when you do that.

But when her mother is killed in a natural disaster thousands of miles from home, Hope’s secluded world crumbles. Need I say more after the gorgeous cover and that epic blurb? I don’t think so.

 

Young Adult Science Fiction:

As if Alexandra Lucas’ anxiety disorder isn’t enough, mysterious holograms suddenly appear from the sky, heralding the end of the world. They bring an ultimatum: heed the warning and step through a portal-like vertex to safety, or stay and be destroyed by a comet they say is on a collision course with earth. How’s that for senior year stress?

The holograms, claiming to be humans from the future, bring the promise of safety. But without the ability to verify their story, Alex is forced to consider what is best for her friends, her family, and herself.

To stay or to go. A decision must be made.

With the deadline of the holograms’ prophecy fast approaching, Alex feels as though she is living on a ticking time bomb, until she discovers it is much, much worse.

Anxiety disorder, apocalypse, fringe events and humans from the future? This book honestly sounds a little all over the place but after seeing the reviews and ratings it received, I am more than a little interested in giving it a try.

 

Natalie Cleary must risk her future and leap blindly into a vast unknown for the chance to build a new world with the boy she loves.

Natalie’s last summer in her small Kentucky hometown is off to a magical start… until she starts seeing the “wrong things.” They’re just momentary glimpses at first—her front door is red instead of its usual green, there’s a pre-school where the garden store should be. But then her whole town disappears for hours, fading away into rolling hills and grazing buffalo, and Nat knows something isn’t right.

That’s when she gets a visit from the kind but mysterious apparition she calls “Grandmother,” who tells her: “You have three months to save him.” The next night, under the stadium lights of the high school football field, she meets a beautiful boy named Beau, and it’s as if time just stops and nothing exists. Nothing, except Natalie and Beau.

The title of this book honestly put me off for a bit–I love swoon worthy romances, but not all the time. This book however seems to have a lot more going than “a beautiful boy named Beau” and I am hoping that we will get to see more sci-fi than teen romance drama here.

 

Young Adult Realistic Fiction:

 

His obsession.

In this dark kissing book, high school senior Zephyr Doyle is swept off her feet—and into an intense relationship—by the new boy in school.

Zephyr is focused. Focused on leading her team to the field hockey state championship and leaving her small town for her dream school, Boston College.

He understands her fears and insecurities—he even shares them. Soon, their relationship becomes something bigger than Zephyr, something she can’t control, something she doesn’t want to control.

Zephyr swears it must be love. Because love is powerful, and overwhelming, and…terrifying?

But love shouldn’t make you abandon your dreams, or push your friends away. And love shouldn’t make you feel guilty—or worse, ashamed.

So when Zephyr finally begins to see Alec for who he really is, she knows it’s time to take back control of her life.

If she waits any longer, it may be too late.  

I became a huge fan of YA Realistic Fiction ever since reading Laurie Halse Anderson’s Wintergirls, and in my opinion there’s no one better at this genre than her. However, I have a good feeling about S. M. Parker’s book, and stories about abuse and victim/criminal psychology has always been intriguing to me.

In a perfect world, sixteen-year-old Phoebe Martins’ life would be a book. Preferably a YA novel with magic and a hot paranormal love interest. Unfortunately, her life probably wouldn’t even qualify for a quiet contemporary. But when Phoebe finds out that Dev, the hottest guy in the clarinet section, might actually have a crush on her, she turns to her favorite books for advice. Phoebe overhauls her personality to become as awesome as her favorite heroines and win Dev’s heart. But if her plan fails, can she go back to her happy world of fictional boys after falling for the real thing.

This book sounds like a perky, light hearted read, and maybe even the kind of book I can relate to as a bookworm who is always in her bookish fantasy land. So yes, I am very excited for Isabel Bandeira’s Debut novel.

Adult Fiction Historical Fiction:

Historical Fiction is a genre I have never paid that much attention to and I hope to change that during this coming year. Of all the Historical Fiction books being released this year, these two caught my eye the most, mainly because of their blurb.
