While nearly every country around the globe have been imposing lockdowns before the total infected count hit 12000, the ruling government in my country has just decided that now would be a good time to open all markets and businesses–right after we hit 10000 positive cases for coronavirus.
I really have no words. I understand that a lot of people around the world are showing their selfish, privileged, greedy nature during this pandemic by demanding that all businesses reopen again, but to know this and to experience it first hand are two different things.
Simply put, reality sucks. Fiction is so much better.
On that note, last week I finished reading and reviewing some really incredible books. The first one that I want to talk about is We Were All Someone Else Yesterday by Omar Holmon. I don’t know why not enough people are talking about this book, but this poetry book made me laugh and cry at the same time! Holmon is a brilliant, talented poet who shares his experiences on love, loss and family in this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys modern poetry or performance poetry. You can read more about it in my review below.
I also reviewed Alma Underwood Is Not A Kleptomaniac by Lacey Dailey, which is a super cute, and very quirky romance between a kleptomaniac and a thief. Now I normally don’t enjoy romance novels but this one was a sweet, fluffy read and perfect for anyone looking for a light-hearted story that does not take itself seriously.
Besides this, I also finished reading Flyaway by Kathleen Jennings, another wonderful fantasy novel that’s just absolutely perfect for times like these, because of how it transports you away to a whole new world of dark magic and mysteries. I will be posting a review of it soon some time next week.
Aside from my progress in catching up with the ARCs I’ve received, last week was pretty unproductive. I’ve been struggling to keep up with the sudden new pressures and responsibilities at work, and it’s been exhausting to be honest. The only highlight of my week was the reveal for the latest expansion pack for The Sims 4 and even that bit of good news received so much hate and negativity from typical Karens.
Here’s to hoping this coming week will be much better.
Aww hope this week is better as well Tanaz! Sending all the positivity and energy your way <3
Oh no, I’m so sorry your country is opening up despite things not being safe. The last few weeks have been WILD with privilege and really shown how little people don’t care about others. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe
