Happy Valentine’s Day bookworms! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday–a weekly original meme created by The Broke and The Bookish–is of course all about love, and so here I am with a list of my top ten favorite bookish couples, whose love inspires me and makes me hope that one day I find a love like theirs too.
1) Elizabeth & Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
I am a sucker for romances where two people who are polar opposites and get off on the wrong foot slowly begin to understand each other, and then respect each other, which eventually what makes them stand out as a couple–the way they respect and appreciate each other. And I think that the bond shared between Elizabeth and Darcy is the best example of that. Their relationship was unique because they had to learn to set aside their ego and prejudices and learn to understand and respect each other as human beings to fall in love.
There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.
2) Warner & Juliette from Shatter Me
What’s a better love story than one where two people lift each other up, make each other better, and stronger? That’s what Warner and Juliette’s love is in my opinion and I think those of you who have read all 3 books and the novellas will agree with me. These two healed each other, and taught each other all that they could be, and that is what makes their love so beautiful.
And we are quotation marks, inverted and upside down, clinging to one another at the end of this life sentence. Trapped by lives we did not choose.
3 Elias & Laia from An Ember In The Ashes
Let’s just say that Elias and Laia are my absolute favorite characters from this book–both of them are such sweethearts, and the best part about their relationship is how honest and selfless they are with each other. I know a lot of people prefer Elias and Helene, but as much as I grudgingly admire Helene, I doubt her loyalty to the wrong people makes her compatible with anyone with a strong sense of morale, much less someone like Elias.
AND ANYWAY ELIAS AND LAIA ARE JUST EFFING HOT OKAY? Okay.
“You are my temple,” I murmur as I kneel beside her. “You are my priest. You are my prayer. You are my release.”
4) Blue & Gansey from The Raven Boys
The best part about The Raven Cycle books is the relationship between the characters, and Blue and Gansey’s relationship particularly stands out even though for three whole books they’ve only been just friends. Their relationship is so beautifully expressed in the books that I won’t insult it by trying to describe it–go read the book to find out I love them! You will not be disappointed, I promise!
“Is this thing safe?”
“Safe as life,” Gansey replied.
5) Alex & Lena from Delirium
The greatest love stories are often the ones where the couples fight tooth and nail to be together, and that’s Alex and Lena from Delirium. Although in the later books they are too preoccupied with far bigger problems than their love lives (such as overthrowing an oppressive government system for one) the love they shared is one that will break your heart and turn you into a melting puddle.
“You can build walls all the way to the sky and I will find a way to fly above them. You can try to pin me down with a hundred thousand arms, but I will find a way to resist. And there are many of us out there, more than you think. People who refuse to stop believing. People who refuse to come to earth. People who love in a world without walls, people who love into hate, into refusal, against hope, and without fear.
I love you. Remember. They cannot take it.”
6) Clary and Jace from The Mortal Instruments
I cannot possibly make a list of my favorite couples without naming them. They are by far one of the best couples I have read about, and no matter how many times I reread the series I cannot get enough of them.
“And now I’m looking at you,” he said, “and you’re asking me if I still want you, as if I could stop loving you. As if I would want to give up the thing that makes me stronger than anything else ever has. I never dared give much of myself to anyone before – bits of myself to the Lightwoods, to Isabelle and Alec, but it took years to do it – but, Clary, since the first time I saw you, I have belonged to you completely. I still do. If you want me.”
7) Percy & Annabeth from Percy Jackson and The Olympians
Another couple I absolutely have to mention, and anyone who have read the books will know why.
“I am never, ever going to make things easy for you, Seaweed Brain. Get used to it.”
8) Maven and Mare from Red Queen
SPOILER AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T READ RED QUEEN, SO PLEASE SKIP THIS READ AND MOVE ON CAUSE YOU DON’T WANT THIS SPOILER
No, I should not ship them. I absolutely should not encourage a romance that would be abusive if it ends up happening.
But…I do.
9)Kestrel and Arin from The Winner’s Curse
Kestrel and Arin stands out from other YA couples because of what they show through their love–that cultural differences, social classes, and prejudice are senseless and pointless in the grander scheme of life, and that what really matters is kindness and compassion towards your fellow human beings. And that’s why I consider them one of the best couples in literature.
“Happiness depends on being free, and freedom depends on being courageous.”
10) ALL the couples from The Lunar Chronicles
Need I really say more? Cinder and Kai, Scarlet and Wolf, Cress and Thorne, and Winter and Jacyn are all the IT couples, and I adore each and everyone of them equally.
What’s your TTT? Don’t forget to leave your link the comments below! Have a great day, full of love.
Great post! I also love Darcy and Lizzie, as well as Juliette and Warner!
Yay another Warnette shipper! Honestly those two deserve each other. They lift each other up. And I think Darcy and Lizzie make the best couple because despite such huge differences in the way they think and their backgrounds they still respect each other and treat each other as equals.
Who’s your favorite bookish couple? Other than these 2 of course 😄
Yes! I would love to read more about them. I mean we have so much Darcy and Lizzie to fill our souls but not enough Warnette.
Have you read ACOTAR/MAF? I don’t want to spoil if you haven’t but one of the couples there is another favorite of mine.
No I haven’t! Everyone loves that series so much that I am almost scared to read it. Hyped books make me have really high expectations and usually end up disappointing me in the end XD BUT I will give it a try as soon as I am done with my CR!
Oh my goodness I agree with all of your ships 😱 Are we the same person? Haha just kidding! But seriously though, I’ve never known every ship in a tag like this until your post!
Omg you must be the other half of my soul then! You know what they say? If you love the same book and you ship the same OTP you are soul twins 💕
Girl, then we are. We are soul twins. It’s official 😉
We definitely are! Thank you so much for dropping by 💕
Yeah of course! I love your blog! <3
*weeps out of happiness*
Did you do this tag too? Link me to your post! I’d love to read yours too
I actually haven’t done this tag but I’d be more than happy too! Maybe I’ll do it sometime later this week and I can share it with you 🙂
Sure thing! Link it here. How did you like The Raven Boys?
For sure! AND THE RAVEN BOYS! I’m gonna be reading the final book this summer but I love that series so much! How about you?
I LOVED it! It’s so unique. The writing style is completely different from any other YA I have ever read. And the characters are my babies ❤
YES! That’s what I say! The characters are just so intricate and the writing is so intricate and I didn’t even think writing like that was even possible! It definitely is very different, and to be very honest, it’s the characters that make the story. Just like Six of Crows, The Raven Boys has such a great cast ensemble!
It’s like the characters could just sit in a circle and do nothing and I would still love it. The relationship dynamics in this book was especially beautiful. Fantasy or no, I feel like this book is really about friendship in its truest form.
It is! I love that romance isn’t a central part of it – that’s something you don’t see everyday! And oh my goodness, I could read a book about Ronan’s one-liners all day. Gansey too. They’re all so precious and so close to each other!
